We can use the word “ready” in a few different sentence patterns. All the patterns are used to talk about being prepared or not prepared. The “be verb” changes the tense of the sentence (present tense, past tense, future tense, etc.).
Subject + be verb + ready + infinitive…
We can only use this sentence pattern when the subject is performing the action.
- We are ready to go.
- I am ready to eat.
- He is ready to talk.
- The doctor was ready to see me when I arrived.
- He will be ready to go in 10 minutes.
- They are ready to play the game.
Subject + be verb + ready for + noun…
- I am ready for the test.
- She is ready for her presentation tomorrow.
- We were ready for the game.
- Jack will be ready for his job interview.
- We are ready for anything.
This sentence pattern can also be used to show that somebody needs something.
- I am ready for a vacation.
- She is ready for the weekend.
- The baby is ready for a nap.
- We will be ready for dinner when we get home.
Subject + be verb + ready for + noun + infinitive…
We use this when we are ready for another person to do an action, or we are ready for something to happen.
- I am ready for the weather to get warmer.
- She is ready for her company to fire her.
- We are ready for the enemy to attack.
- They are ready for us to come in.
- They were ready for us to come.

1. Make negative sentences using “be verb + not ready”.
- I am not ready to leave yet.
- We are not ready to present our idea.
- She was not ready to decide.
- The students weren’t ready for the test.
2. We can change the word “ready” to “prepared” and the sentence has the same meaning.
- We are prepared to leave.
- I am prepared to ask him some questions.
- Mary wasn’t prepared to leave on time.
- Nobody was prepared for the storm.
- She is prepared for her test.
- He wasn’t prepared for his enemies to attack him.
