Speak with Pete

Stephen: Can I ask you a question?

Pete: Go ahead.

Stephen: How were you able to find such a good job?

Pete: I got lucky. I went to school with the manager at the company. He was a few years older than me, but we were pretty good friends.

Stephen: I see. Having good connections is always helpful. I’ve been having trouble finding a job, and I wonder if it is because of my lack of connections.

Pete: It’s possible, but you also need to be proactive. Don’t just wait for someone to help you. Make some calls and ask other people if they know about any opportunities. People can’t help you if they don’t know that you need help.

Stephen: That’s good advice. Thanks. Anyway, do you want to get some lunch at the diner down the street?

Pete: That sounds good. You go ahead first, and I’ll meet you there in 10 minutes. I have to make a quick phone call.
